A healthy diet reduces the risk of heart attacks and strokes in those who are already suffering from Heart Disease. A 5 year study of 32,000 people showed eating a health diet led to a 14% reduction in the risk of heart attack and a 19% reduction in the risk of stroke.
A healthy diet was defined as one including a high intake of fruits, vegetables, whole grains and nuts, with more fish than meat, poultry or eggs. They were also questioned about lifestyle choices such as smoking, alcohol consumption and exercise.
